[EMSN175] Landslides monitoring in Pasja Ravan region, Slovenia

17 November 2023 at 18:14

Type of Event: Other;
Date/Time of Event (UTC): 2023-08-06 02:30:00;
Activation Date/Time (UTC): 2023-09-22 14:15:00;
Dedicated Mechanism: Copernicus EMS (RRM);
Affected Country: Slovenia;
Affected Area: Pasja Ravan region, Slovenia;
Event Description:

The CEMS Risk and Recovery has been activated by the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, on behalf of the Slovenian Environment Agency, following the landslides occurred in the Pasja Ravan region, in western Slovenia in August 2023.

Since the risk imposed by landslides is still present in the area due to the typical autumn rain, the Authorised User has required further monitoring of the area.Β  By considering the statistical period of higher potential of landslide events, the AU suggested continuing observing the area on a weekly basis, until 15 January 2024, providing detailed damage assessment products.

The Detailed damage assessment product is generated through a change detection analysis between pre- and post-event satellite imagery, identifying photointerpretation keys (i.e., β€˜No visible damage’, β€˜Possible damage’, β€˜Damaged’, β€˜Destroyed’, β€˜Previously affected’, β€˜Not analyzed’) per feature affected in the AOI. The analysis carried out by comparing the pre-event WorldView-3 satellite image acquired on the 17/03/2023 and the most recent WorldView-3 image acquired on the 12/10/2023 revealed that due to the occurred landslides, some sections of the communication routes have been affected with a high level of damage (about 0.1 km of local roads and 0.16 km of cart track) but not completely destroyed. 7 buildings have been damaged and 2 destroyed, according to the visual interpretation of the post-event image.
